All games that use scripting use Lua, ChaiScript, Angelscript. Javascript is already a stupid choice for scripting in games, it's a language born for the internet and there should it stay. Scripts would be replaced by actual c++ code that is extremely better performing than javascript. A fully c++ compiled game as output, without javascript scripts. It gave me the experience i'd need to make an engine equivalent to RPG Maker's one (which having more constraints like tile based maps would be even easier to make - and make efficiently). I'm here trying to understand if it's worth the time, if anyone would be interested.įirst off i'm a master degree student in game development, i never wrote a program as an actual job, but i made multiple personal projects, one of which is a small 2d c++ game engine built on SFML. After some consideration, given the huge amount of things RPGM does wrong and things that could be hugely improved, i'm seriously taking into account the idea of making an alternative, free or low cost.
